Buckwheat
July is the month I plant cover crops in my containers and garden beds. Some years I've planted my extra bean and pea seeds or buckwheat. Un-hulled buckwheat is sometimes available in bulk at the natural food stores.
I've also purchased cover crop seeds specifically designed to control root knot nematodes.

Oh wow what a beautiful harvest!
ReplyDeleteThat's one Beautiful Harvest! It's nice to see what other people can grow in different regions of the country
ReplyDeleteI have never seen such interesting coloration on a cucumber. We have to worry about daylight sensitive plants here but usually because they won't flower until daylight is short and then it's the end of our growing season.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Do these sweet peppers have any pungency at all, or do they taste mostly sweet?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I am curious about those yellow peppers. Are they at all pungent, or are they mostly sweet?
ReplyDeleteSorry about the repeated comment. Some piece of software and I were not getting along :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Allison! Mahalo for your compliment!
ReplyDeleteHi Robin! It's been really fun participating in Daphne's Harvest Monday and seeing what gardeners are harvesting from around the planet. So many different harvests on the same Monday!
Hi Ottawa Gardener! Well...I think it's day length sensitivity as it can't be the weather since it's warm to hot all year in Maui. I had the same experiece with Sour Gherkins and Kiwanos. I planted seeds in the fall/winter - the germination was poor and the plants that germinated were too weak to grow. But they both grew really well this spring.
Hi Angela! These peppers are sweet and mild. The Sunrise is an early variety. Both have been productive and both were from Seeds of Change.
I love the look of the cuke. I've never seen one like that before.
ReplyDeleteIt is very interesting color of those cucumbers. Both you and I have sowed cucumber at same time. Mine will not be ready to harvest for some time. Warm weather can do wonders for a plant growth.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful harvest!
Hi Daphne! These cukes would be a good one for anyone growing for the farmers markets as they're so pretty and unusual.
ReplyDeleteHi vrtlarica! Cucumbers and winter/summer squash grow really fast here - it's amazing! The Japanese Climbing cuke was the earliest and fastest growing of all I've grown so far and the vines were prolific.
Interesting cucumber color, I've never seen it. The tangerine pimento is cute, bet it's good for pickling also.
ReplyDeleteHi Mac! I haven't tried to pickle anything yet but I'm inspired to try it by Harvest Monday. I wonder if the orange color would stay bright if these were pickled.
